Jos Buttler’s IPL experience helps England’spoil the party’ for India

Jos Buttler has suggested that the fact that England has previously competed in front of hostile crowds during the Indian Premier League was a contributing factor in his team’s dominant victory over India in the semi-finals.

Buttler was a standout performer for England in the opening partnership that scored 170 runs and helped the team win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup semi-final by ten wickets.

And the contribution of the England captain would not have come as a surprise to Indian fans who had been watching him play in India’s franchise competition because of his previous performances.

Buttler has an impressive overall record in the Indian Premier League. However, the incredible returns he made in the tournament in 2022 served as a warning for what was to come for India’s bowlers.

Buttler had an incredible start to the year, scoring 863 runs in 17 games for the Rajasthan Royals and leading them to the championship match.

In addition, those runs were scored at a rate of 57.63 runs per innings with a strike rate of 149.05, and the England captain notched four centuries during the course of the match.

The 32-year-old believes that his individual experience playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) was not the only factor that contributed to England’s success in their semi-final match.

During England’s chase, India all-rounder Hardik Pandya and former captain Virat Kohli attempted to whip up the crowd in the hopes of leveraging atmosphere to increase pressure on England. The scoring rate during England’s chase was climbing at an alarming rate.

Buttler claims that the experience actually boosted his confidence and that it wouldn’t have made much of a difference anyway given how accustomed his team is to operating effectively in similar circumstances.

“If he (Pandya) goes to try and get the crowd behind you, that’s telling you that you’re doing well, and that’s a good sign.

“I believe that we have quite a lot of experience playing in the Indian Premier League amongst our team, which means that situations like tonight don’t surprise you.

“We’ve played a lot of games in India, so we’re used to the noise that comes with the Indian cricket fans. This is especially true when certain guys walk onto the field or when they’re batting because of the impact they can have on the game.”

“But having had so much experience as a team playing in the IPL, I don’t think it’s as much of a factor anymore,” he said. “I think it’s more of a factor than it used to be.”

Jos Buttler believes that other franchise competitions

In addition to the Indian Premier League (IPL), contributed to England’s victory on that particular day.

Alex Hales, who will open the batting for them, was selected in part due to the success he has had playing in the Big Bash under Australian conditions. And the captain of England believes that Hales’ previous experience of competing on Australian grounds was evident in his contribution of 86 runs not out, which won the match for England.

“I believe Alex would have played as much cricket in the Big Bash as anyone else, and his performance earlier in the evening was outstanding. I believe that square of the wicket is one of his enormous strengths, which, obviously, is a great asset today on the kind of grounds that we are playing on.

“He has maintained a very high level of performance for a considerable amount of time. His form has been outstanding recently, particularly over the course of the last three matches, and it was wonderful to have him just tuck in behind tonight and bat at the other end.

With England’s victory, there won’t be another India-Pakistan match like the one that kicked off the Super 12 stage.

“I believe there were a few individuals that wanted that final, of course, but for us, getting there was a top priority.

“Like I said, we intended to ruin that celebration.

“There are many people who would have loved to have seen another edition of that after seeing the first game of the tournament between India and Pakistan, but they’ll have to wait for another time,”
